Abu Dhabi: Emirati citizens, pregnant women and residents over 50 will be tested for COVID-19 free of charge next week, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Tuesday.

The move was announced today after HRH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander in Chief of the UAE Armed Forces, adopted guidelines as part of the country’s precautionary measures to test some social categories for free to counter the spread of the corona virus .

In a joint statement, the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Crisis and Disaster Protection Agency announced that Sheikh Mohammed has carried out a free COVID-19 test for Emirates citizens and their domestic workers, along with determined individuals, pregnant women, and residents over 50 years, in addition to those who have symptoms related to the virus and who are in close contact with the confirmed cases.

The health authorities will later set and announce the dates and times of the free tests. Both the Ministry and the agency found that Sheikh Mohammed’s initiative was in line with the readiness of the wise leadership to take all measures to combat the novel virus and to ensure the health and safety of all sections of society.
