Brighton & Hove City Council will soon reveal plans for a new 25-meter swimming pool at the Withdean Sports Complex. The initial designs will be shared online starting Monday, ahead of a public consultation to gather feedback from residents. The council aims to start work on the pool in early 2026, subject to the approval of a full planning application.
An online survey about the five-lane pool will run until June 27. In addition to the survey, three public events will be held for people to view the plans and provide their input. The first event will take place on Tuesday at Westdene Library. Two more sessions will follow the next Monday and Tuesday at the Withdean Sports Complex.
The planning application for the new pool is expected to be submitted in the summer. The new facility is intended to offer modern, sustainable, and affordable sports opportunities for the local community. The pool will provide much-needed additional space for swimming lessons, training, and recreational use.
The Withdean Sports Complex currently serves many local clubs and community members but lacks sufficient swimming facilities. The new 25-meter pool with five lanes will better accommodate competitive swimming and training activities.
The council has emphasized that sustainability will be a key feature of the project, likely incorporating energy-efficient designs and environmentally friendly materials to reduce operating costs and lower the pool’s environmental impact. Making the pool affordable and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds is also a priority.
If the planning application is approved this summer, construction could begin in early 2026. A completion date has not yet been announced, but the council hopes the new pool will open soon after the building work is finished. Residents interested in the project can find more information and take part in the survey on the council’s official website.
Local sports and health experts have welcomed the plans, noting that a new swimming pool will support community health, fitness, and social inclusion. Swimming is known to improve physical health and well-being, making such facilities important for public health.
