American singer-songwriter Billy Joel has canceled 17 tour dates after being diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain condition that affects his hearing, vision, and balance. The 76-year-old artist, known for hits like Piano Man and Uptown Girl, is focusing on his health following medical advice to stop performing live.
Joel’s condition worsened after recent concerts, leading doctors to recommend physical therapy and a break from touring. The canceled shows include stadium performances at Murrayfield in Edinburgh and Anfield in Liverpool scheduled for 2025 and 2026. He had also planned a series of concerts across the US and Canada during this period.
Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus is a rare disorder caused by fluid buildup in the brain, most commonly affecting people over 60. Symptoms include difficulties with walking, memory, hearing, and vision, which are particularly challenging for a performing artist like Joel.
Earlier in 2024, Joel postponed several shows due to a medical condition and recovery from surgery. Fans who purchased tickets for the canceled dates are advised to seek information from official sources about refunds.
Billy Joel has had a long and successful career spanning over 50 years. He has been nominated for 23 Grammy Awards, winning five, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. He recently ended a decade-long monthly residency at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Joel’s team says he is grateful for the support of his fans and is fully committed to his recovery. Updates on his health and future tour plans will be provided as they become available.
